Post #3 Green Eggs and Ham 3 "Mississippi Solo"
The most prominent theme in the novel “Mississippi Solo” by Eddy L. Harris is overcoming obstacles that you dream upon completing in your lifetime, with or without the support of others. “Wanting something is not enough. You must hunger for it. Your motivation must be absolutely compelling in order to overcome the obstacles that will invariably come your way,” is a quote to help better understand the concept of this theme. Many of his friends do not believe that this dream is worth aiming for. When he states that he wants to do it, they reply, “What the hell for? What are you trying to prove? Why don’t you just go over Niagara Falls in a barrel?”(3). This was from his own friends, so he had to get the courage on his own to follow his dream. He gets courage from his old friend Robert when he tells him, “…I was going to do the river. I told him the obstacles that blocked me, that I still had no canoe, no gear, no money, and that everyone I knew had said it was impossible and stupid”(5) No matter what people say, he looks past the obstacles and sticks his mind to complete his dream.

i feel that your whole entire post is completely accuarate. but i think that the author was also trying to make it clear that all the negativity from his friends was normal and they should try to encourage you to not to do anything that potentially harm you, cause that shows that they are true freinds...
